  1. When I am using the vga input to my laptop with the miniRCA jack, I noticed that only one side of the speaker (right side) has sound. The left side has no sound. But when I am watching tv or using the other 8 inputs, the speakers are very balanced. I checked the settings on my laptop and SPEAKER SETTINGS are turned on for both sides with equal settings. When I turn left side all the way up to HIGH (on the properties under SOUND from the CONTROL PANEL), nothing happens. When I turn right side all the way up and down, it does adjust the sound. Left does not work. This is only when I am connecting my laptop to my XBR3. What can I do?

The VGA output of the laptop should have no impact on the audio. So the "problem" would seem to be with the audio output. Is the audio output of the laptop stereo or mono? RCA jacks are the larger connectors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RCA_connector ) used in audio equipment. Most soundcards use the 1/8 mini plugs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TRS_connector). If it is a mini plug, is the cable mono or stereo? A mono cable/connector in a stereo plug often creates audio only in the right channel.

It could also just not be plugged in completely, a bad cable, a bad connector on the laptop or a bad connector on the TV.

I would suspect so also. So the qustion then becomes what type of cabling are you using. The output of the laptop is likely 1/8 mini plug and the input of the TV is likely RCA. So you need a 1/8 stereo mini plug to RCA stereo (red and white RCA connectors) cable.

Mini plugs come in stereo and mono versions.

The stereo has 2 black rings below the point, the mono only 1. If the cable you are using is solely for the TV and does not have a stereo mini plug and two RCA jacks, the cable is your problem.
