    Hi everybody

I have a strange wmv file that is reported as

    asf
    WMV3 / 0x33564D57, 848x480
    Stream #0.4, 1000.00 fps(r):
    wmav2, 44100 Hz, stereo, 64 kb/s

The only player that can play it right is mplayer. Both VLC and Flip4mac play the file without sound.

Most of the conversions I tried in ffmpegX failed ("Incorrect Framerate" or "Codec type mismatch for mapping #0.0 -> #0.0") except to h.264 and DV, but even with these the resulting files were only playable in mplayer...

But I could successfully export sound-only to an mp3 file.

How can I convert this strange file to an easy playable file with sound?

    Thanks for any advice.
    Stefan

    Hi,

I had the same kind of issue a while ago, but unlike you, the file played in quicktime after having installed flip4mac, and also played in VLC.
I've never been able to use ffmpegx to convert it, but I was able to do it using the VLC Export wizard. You should maybe give it a shot.

Also, you should post the whole progress file on the forum as it might give a better insight of what's happening

When you see 1000 fps, then the framerate wasn't detected correctly. Try to find the correct framerate in another tool (e.g. QuickTime Player with Flip4Mac) and use that framerate for the target in the Video tab.

This error can be fixed most times by setting the "Invert mapping" checkbox in the Audio tab, as a forum search could have told you. (frequently asked)

I find this quite weird. MP4 and DV files should be playable by most players. No idea why that could happen.

Maybe you can convert video and audio separately and bring them back together with QuickTime Pro.

Try to find out if mencoder presets work better than ffmpeg presets, or vise versa. Look in the Options tab, and check/uncheck "Decode with QuickTime" (if available) to see if that makes a difference.
