    Hey,

The main reason why I didn't post these questions in my other thread is that thread was direct to encoding conversions of video.

Audio: What type is most likely will be in an HDTV movie? If by any chance it's in high quality DTS or bigger audio, how on earth do I convert it to 5.1 AC3? I prefer using 5.1 AC3 for movies. What freeware tools can be use to convert or encode from high quality audio down to standard audio?

If by "HDTV movie" you are referring to something broadcast on TV but in high definition (ie. like on HBO HD or something similar), ONLY AC3 audio is used. If you are referring to either BluRay or HD-DVD, the 2 high definition DVD standards, then the answer is quite complicated as both support a variety of audio formats. There is no need to convert audio from high definition broadcast TV as it's already in AC3 format. DTS is not allowed to be used in broadcasts, probably because of its high bit rate.
