  1. Hi all,

First-time poster here, so please excuse me if this question has been answered before, as I searched the forums but couldn't find a good solution:

I have created a DVD but it won't seem to play in my stand-alone DVD player connected to the TV. It works fine on my computer's DVD/RW drive, though.

The DVD was created with WinAVI Video Converter. The media is Memorex 4X DVD+RW. My stand alone player is a Sony DVP-NS425P. It has a sticker on the front that says DVD-RW/-R and DVD+RW/+R so I assume it should be able to play the files. The DVD burner on my Dell XPS is a TSSTcopp DVD+-RW TS-H653A.

Any idea what I could be doing wrong? Audio and Video_TS folders are on the disc, VOB files are there, and as I said, it works fine on my computer's drive.

    Thanks for any advice.

Well I guess the first step would be to try other media (discs), not a rewritable.

Well, according to the guide available on this here site, your player can in fact play DVD+RW, so that is likely not the issue. But as a future reference, do not assume it can play something just because a sticker on the player says so. That often results in heartache.

Without knowing your exact authoring/burning method, it is hard to determine whether that might be the problem. I have always found TSSTCorp drives more than just a little suspect after having burned several things on them, but that's just me.

Point being, a bit more information might help us determine the cause.

  4. Thanks for the advice. Turns out, if I had looked at the TV screen, I would have had more information: it was a region coding issue. Installed DVD Decrypter, patched it to Region 1 (the Sony seems to have problems with Region-Free or MultiRegion coding), and all is well now. I've created about 10 DVD's now, no problems to speak of.

    Thanks again.
