    Hello,

I have tried opening an MPEG file with sony vegas pro 8, But it just says an error occured during the reading of the file, I have tried other mpeg files aswell but it does not open them too, Also in the options for rending I cannot render as mpeg, example if I have a wmv file and want to render it as an mpeg, the option is not there.
Also I cannot convert MP3 files to AC3 using Soundforge 9.

    Help Please.
    Thanks.

Uninstall the application and reinstall it. This time, register the software on the web providing your name, address and other info about you. After registering, you'll get a full trial version for 30 days, includding both plug-ins Dolby Surround AC-3 and MPEG2 Buy the software.

  4. Is the ability to read MPEGs disabled in the trial / demo mode? I just want to make sure there isn't something haywire about the software before I plunk down my cash. Other than that, I love it!

Sony Vegas 8.0a trial version, if registered correctly "as a trial version" (as I've put it right above) works great and it is fully function, if I'm not mistaken, for 30 days (trial period). More than this... you have to buy the software in order to unlock it.
People trying to register the software using "other ways" (such as registering from another computer or whatever) will get a trial version without both the MPEG2 and the plug-in Dolby Surround. This seems to be the software protection against ways of registering it illegaly. BTW, just to alert you - Sony Vegas 8.0 (as well as Vegas 7.0 - all versions) "seems" to have a BUG in the alpha channel.
    Cheers!

  6. I've installed the trial on two different machines, one with Vista and one with XP SP2. The Vista machine initially had trouble doing the automatic registration until I found the "bug" about having to "install as an Administrator", and then it seemed to register properly. The XP machine registered itself properly and promptly, but neither machine will import .mpg files. These are valid files that I have purchased from an online video file supplier for church use, and Adobe Premiere Elements (trial, again, because I'm working to decide between the two) opens them fine. I know they are good files, but Vegas tells me that the plugin has not been installed. "the file is an unsupported format."

I'm largely concerned that I'll continue having this problem if I purchase the software via download and then I wouldn't be able to use a very critical type of media.

You have to install the software marking the option "register on the web", as I have said. The software is unlocked for 30 days. For instance, choosing from the menu bar, File> Render As, you MIGHT find both MPEG2 and Dolby Surround plug-ins on the list. About Vista: as many people, I don't like it. Not yet, the way it is. Most applications (video tools, etc.) don't work for Vista. Use Windows XP SP2. Maybe at the end of the next year, Vista will be fixed

BTW, please check out Sony Vegas Website (Google it: Sony Vegas) to get some more information about the trial version; what it can do or what it can't. Anyway, this is what Sony says about trial versions:

Trial Versions: Limited time fully functioning (except certain 3rd-party plug-ins) versions.
    Cheers

When you buy the full version of Vegas 8.0A Pro you will receive the licenses for the 3rd party plug-ins included.

On a side note, I find VISTA pleasantly surprising. If you spend some time with it, and if you have some 2nd level experience with operating systems, you will see they put great effort into this package. Also, if you take a look at Microsoft's recently released financials, you will see that VISTA is selling much better than was previously thought.

The only problem I have had with VISTA so far is...
    NONE

Tell me which video tools don't work and I'll take a look at them.

My experience with Vista has been the same. I'm running it at work and at home. I use a wide range of application software on both of them. Both were clean installations, not upgrades. I think that is one area where people can get into trouble. It's important to do a clean installation with any OS. It saves a lot of grief. It's also important to confirm that drivers are the latest ones for use with Vista.

I noticed there are certain personalty types that always whine about the new version of anything. For some I think it is a way of getting attention; for others, it is a way to cover their own incompetence and for others, it is just the perverse kick they get from arguing.

-I assume this is for me, isn't it? lol Anyway, thanks for the kind and gentle remark. I'm glad to know there are people who are happy with Vista. Enjoy it! kkkkk For me? Well, if I get enough attention and if I'm not too incompetent or whatever... maybe next december... who knows :P

No, it wasn't meant for you. Your comments were well expressed and reasonable. I was referring to vitriolic posters who sound like they have an ax to grind and are way too emotional and obnoxious in their comments. Maybe I've been lucky but I haven't had any applications problems. For those who have, maybe SP1 will help.

    SCDVD,

I agree that upgrades is where you run into problems. If I purchase a new laptop with XP, I'm going to keep it XP until I was forced to upgrade to VISTA, which is unlikely. I would NOT upgrade to VISTA for 'fun'. On the other hand, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase a new laptop with VISTA pre-installed, i.e. the new HP DV6000 or DV9500 series, due to the extensive testing carried out by both MSFT and HP prior to certification. As far as drivers go, all of my external devices (printers, hard drives, dvd burners) purchased over the last two or three years have downloadable drivers for VISTA, and all have worked as advertised.

    Cunhambebe,

After experimenting with Adobe, Pinnacle, Sony, Ulead, and other lesser known manufacturers' editing and encoding software, Sony Vegas Pro wins hands down for me. I would recommend it to anyone, novice or pro.

-Same thing here. I only hope that Sony can fix that probable BUG in the alpha channel.
    Cheers!
