    Hi all,

I started a vegas pro 8 project during the day, shutdown my pc when I'd had enough, then booted back up later in the evening to continue editing. Unfortunately, the project I was working on now won't open. It gets stuck at 34% It doesn't ask for missing files etc. It just sits on 34% then I check the Task Manager and after a while it says Vegas is 'Not Responding'. Absolutely nothing has been changed since shutting down vegas and the computer earlier in the day, and rebooting the pc and reopening the project file this evening....

Any suggestions/ideas?? I haven't got a clue, but it's very worrying, as this is now the second project file in two weeks that won't open. It's only a surfing video but I'd be screwed if it was a client file...

Thanks in advance for any help!

I would start by deleting the files Vegas creates when it opens an asset for the first time. These include the peak data for audio. If one of these is corrupt it could cause issues, as Vegas validates these when it opens a project. You should find them in the same folder as the assets. You can safely delete them, as Vegas will recreate them when you open the project.

Thanks guns1inger for you suggestion. I tried it, but unfortunately it didn't work.

However, I suspected it may have something to do with my plugins, so I've been uninstalling them one by one. The weird thing is, after uninstalling the first plugin (Magic Bullet Looks v1.1), the project file opened successfully the first time, but when I closed vegas and reopened it to make sure it was working correctly, it froze again while trying to open the project file.

So I then uninstalled the next plugin (one of the New Blue plugins), and the same thing happened! The project opened fine the first time, but after closing and reopening vegas to make sure, it froze again!

I have now uninstalled all plugins except for Velvet Matter 'Radiance', and the project file now opens successfully each time (so far...). So the bottom line is the problem has something to do with one (or more) of the plugins. Time to reinstall them all and see what happens

Thanks again guns1inger for your help.

    Cheers.

This was helpful - I was having exact same problem with Sony Vegas Pro 8.0c Build 260 - would spend hours working on project, save it, then not be able to re-open it . . . no error messages, the progress bar would simply stop at some % and go no further. I uninstalled SpiceMaster plugin (which got % to go higher, but still hang), then MagicBullets plugin, which finally allowed those projects to be re-opened. Not sure if this is rooted in an insufficient memory issue - Sony Vegas does bootup noticeably quicker now. I don't consider the overall projects to be all that large; in one case there was maybe 10 >2 min .avis, 6 .jpgs, and 1 .mp3, so you'd like to think that wouldn't be too taxing on memory.

So thanks!!! I thought I had lost hours of work and was at the point of dumping Sony Vegas and trying yet another NLE.

Sorry to hijack but what are some plugins that you feel are a must with vegas pro 8?
