  1. Hello Guys... Im sure this has been up there several times but I'm in a time crunch and need everyones help.

    I have a DVD (sports) that I received from a friend in the UK. Its has 4h10m and the other has over 5 hrs of video. This DVD is in PAL format. I have read about converting and I'm cocking the gun..

    I have several peice of software that I use to rip and what not...

    Here is some of the items I use:

    Blaze Media Pro
    DVD to VCD AVI DIVX Converter (by YasaSoft)
    Super DVD creator

    Now, when I rip these from PAL to mpg they normally come out to about 2.6-3g

    I try to but them using Super DVD Creator, but since its more then 120 minutes it will not let me...

    Can someone offer some advise!

    For MPEG DVD conversion, try ConvertXToDVD. It's easy to use and does a fair job with PAL<>NTSC MPEG conversions. I use VOB2MPG most times to extract the MPEG file from the VOBS. If it's encrypted, you will also need a ripper like DVDFab HD Decrypter.

    Those type of conversions can be fairly difficult if you want to do it with the individual tools and you need the best quality. Or really difficult if you want to keep the menus. But there are plenty of guides to the left in 'Convert'.

    If you wanted a Divx/Xvid output, you could try AutoGK.

    The short answer is yes, you can put much more than 120 minutes on a DVD. The 120m sounds as if it may be a limitation of your software because a DVD is not limited to 120 minutes.

    Rip the DVD's to your hard drive
    load the vob's in ConvertXToDVD
    Click on Convert

    ideally - burn to a double layer disc as that will help retain quality
    <edit>
    of course, before converting you will want to go into ConvertXtoDVD tools and configure your TV format (ntsc or pal) and encoding Target size (DVD-5 single layer / DVD-9 double layer) also, you make no mention of needing to retain the menu's but be informed that with this method you loose your menus.
