You can try make a .divx with subtitles using avisub and it should work on divx certified dvd player.

What subtitle formats do your player support? .srt is the most widely supported.
On my prev. player, I had to first select the .srt, then the movie to have it play with subtitles.

Well, it might help to know the make and model of your DVD player. Some Philips DVD players that can play Divx files can play subtitles, but you have to access the subtitles files first. It is not easy to figure out how to do this without help. You also need to understand that if you edit a subtitles file on a non-Windows system (ie. Linux, Unix, Mac) that it may cause problems where DVD players can't read the file because the end of line characters are different from what they expect.

Look at your subtitles file and be sure that you can read it. If it's not readable (the characters are crazy like this - %$4d#@v^X?>eRf$#), it is either not a text file or the character set is wrong. If your subtitles are in Cyrillic, it is also possible that your DVD player does not support Cyrillic subtitles and this is why it won't show them. You should know that Unicode is rarely supported for subtitles files and if your subtitles are Cyrillic, they will need to be in a format like CP-1251 to work. My Philips DVD player at first only supported Cyrillic subtitles if the format was ISO-8859-5, which is a very obscure and old Cyrillic character set, but they came out with a firmware patch that supported CP-1251. Since you are in Macedonia, your language uses the Cyrillic alphabet and I think that there is a good chance that you either need a different character set for your subtitles or your DVD player doesn't support Cyrillic in any format.

  5. My Pioneer and Philips wouldn't play my srt subs even though they were fine on my PC.
A simple fix that worked for me was to run the srt through DivXLand Media Subtitler, allow it to make any corrections and resave.

And as jman98 said, if you have a Philips player, you may need to go to your DVD player's menu and select the subtitle file first.

That's very player dependant. Only player I know is DivX own player.

Of course. Try it on a rewritable disk.
But you have to find some answers:
Is your player DivX/DivX Ultra certified?
What's the make and model of your player?
What subtitle formats it supports should be in the manual.

  9. use time adjuster to convert the .srt in .sub. or .ssa format and see if that works with your player
