  1. Is there any program or plugin for Sound Forge or Cool Edit Pro that can extract the vocals from the intrumental. I know AnalogX can remove the vocals leaving the intrumental, but I want to remove the intrumental and leave the vocals.

Is this possible with out any music hardware.

  2. It all works by taking what is common in both the left and right channels. Since vocals are primarily centered (ie equal in both channels), they can be removed by the following steps:

    1. Invert the left and right channels, then swap them.

    2. Save the file under a new name.

    3. Load the original file again and mix the saved file with it.

You vocals should now be gone in both channels (at least as much as they can easily be removed). You can play with the amount of vocal removal by adjusting how much to mix.

So now you want to rid youself of everything and keep the vocals. Do the following:

    4. Take your file (from step 3) and invert left and right channels.

    5. Save it under a new name.

    6. Load your original file again and mix the inverted-vocal-removed file (the one you just saved).

You should be left with only the vocals.

It's easy if you think of it as a sine wave. Take a sine wave and flip it upside down (invert it). What do you think would happen if you added it to the unflipped sine wave? It would be a flat line. That's how sound works. Cool heh?

  3. Thanx dude, i knew sin waves defined music. But that's pretty logical, never thought of it like that.

    I'll give it a shot.
