    hi
i have two Plextor PX 716 burners and i bought a spindle of Plextor (Taiyo Yuden) DVD-R 16x.
when i try to burn them at 4x or 16x it allways gives me an error.
it happens with the 2 burners.
    i use Nero 7.
i already tried with Nero 8 and other DVDR brands and nothing happens.

other strange thing, is when i put a DVD i go to the properties of the drive and it says:
    used space: 0 bytes
    free space: 0 bytes

    can you help me?
    thanks

First, ensure your burners have the latest firmware. Second, you can use a program such as Nero Speed or DVDInfo Pro to get the media id and verify the media type (which I assume you already know how to do since you believe your Plextor media is actually TY).

What is the error? Are you getting actual burn errors trying to burn data or are you trying to use Nero to convert and burn avi's?

Ensure you have all of the latest updates and patches for Nero...there are several. If you are trying to burn with Nero and it fails, it generates an error log. Post the log and we will have better idea what is happening.

try using IMGBURN to burn dvd media. nero is not the best software to use for dvd burning. also you may want to post your question at the PLEXTOR FORUM at Cdfreaks.com.

are you sure the drives jumper settings are correct? in the back of the drive there's jumper settings that can be set to MASTER.SLAVE or CABLE SELECT. make sure the ide cable is connected to the correct setting. if one drive has the jumper setting to MASTER then it has to be connected to the MASTER of the ide cable. same thing w/the SLAVE & CABLE SELECT jumper setting.

Two burners in the same rig both stopped burning? If so you should be looking toward the computer for solutions. Try uninstalling your IDE channels or/and installing the latest (or most appropriate) chipset drivers for your MOBO.

are you using a 80 wire ide cable with your drives? if not then buy one but if you still have problems after changing the ide cable then time for you to buy a new dvd burner. the laser maybe dying in your drives.

Uninstall and reinstall your burning software or try a completely different program such as ImgBurn (free).

  10. Geez, people with real Plextors should have Plextools installed in order to take advantage of paying the $$$ for a Plextor.

Do you have some kind of virtual drive or anti copy-protection software running in the background?

  12. Hmm, best thing to do would be to try the drives out on a different computer. It's possible that there's something wrong with both drives, but more chance that it is your system/Windows.
