  1. Well it looks as if when you rip a dvd with .ac3 and .dts and you want to keep just the .dts you can't do it.

You have to have at least one .ac3 in the audio line up with the .dts following or "no sound".

Burned Dragonheart with just the .dts and nothing. All the other ones were fine. Even shows on the display.

    Any thoughts?

Looks as if the DVD standards are saying this as well. But there not always in plain english.

  2. I am new to this so I cannot say I understand exactly what your question is about. But... If I rip DVD's with DTS then I cannot get any sound. Is there something in my settings that I can change?
I have the it set to "auto" in the 2nd part where it "saves project".
Is there any information I could study up on regarding my settings?
    I am using VCD galaxy.
    TIA

  5. you need an AC3 track (even a 2-ch one) because that's a required part of the DVD spec. due to the original european spec of MPEG-audio, some programs used to let you get by with that instead. but dts is never supposed to be the stand-alone audio option.

Appreciate the confirmation about having one.ac3 as the first in the audio line up followed by .dts.

I read over the technical notes at http://www.mpeg.org/MPEG/DVD/. It seemed to be saying what we now know to be fact.

You must have an .ac3 file as the first audio track in a DVD movie and if you want a .dts or sdds audio file it must follow the .ac3 file.
