cut Video file by iMovie/iDVD

Hello,

I am new to Mac OS and this forum. I did not use previous versions of OX X but Leopard and my MacBook are the best I have ever used so far.
On my Windows PC I was using TMPEG Express which is not available for Mac. I was using TMPEG to convert the 7GB file I had catched fom my video camera to the format and volume I want. So I was simply choosing to make it say MPEG and fit the DVD 4.2GB and business is done.

iMovie allows to cut the video but export was not to my satisfaction. I selected to export movies in "Large" resolution 960x540 and it made a file of 1,5GB considerably compressed which affected the video quality.

Although there is also option to export in MPEG or QuickMovie format I could not find the option how to export considering the file limit I want (say 4.2GB).

I use iDVD to burn the project and the only problem I I have is to cut and export movie in the kb volume I want.
I also assume iDVD is unable to cut the part of movies.

Anyone can assist?

First we need more info.

1. What type of files does your camera output?
.DV Streamfiles? Mpeg-2? Mpeg-4?

2. I can only guess that since you were using TMPEG Express,
that the files were maybe Mpeg-2?
If so on the Mac the best editor for Mpeg flavor files is MpegStreamclip,
which requires purchase of the Quicktime Mpeg-2 component.

With this app, you can make simple cuts, and then re-save the file
ready to go as DVD Assets (.m2v and.ac3/.aiff audio)to mux
back into a Compliant DVD using Toast or ffmpegx.
