    hi all . i keep getting this error:

    After effects error: no such AVI compressor

    when trying to import youtube avi files to adobe after effects 7 . I downloaded a few vides from youtube using a program and now i can't use them!! could any one tell me how to over come this problem?Thanks

    Youtube doesn't use avi, it uses FLV. If you used a program that downloads and converts the video, it has either screwed up (quite likely) or it has used a codec that does not have a decompresser that After Effects can use. Why on earth you would want to use crappy youtube source in AE is beyond me.

    Anyway, you have two choices

    1. use MediaInfo or G-Spot to work out what you have converted to, and then find a suitable codec for After Effects you use to read the video

    or

    2. Convert the videos to something AE can use.

    Note : As you will have to re-encode after processing in After Effects, and as every re-encode costs you a quality hit, I would suggest you convert your YouTube flv video to something uncompressed or losslessly compressed (using lagarith or Huffyuv), then process it in After Effects, and either compress from there to your final format, or again to a lossless format until you are finished.
