I have a software title called Youtube Downloader HQ Pro. It downloads in HD, 1280x720. The resulting videos are in mp4 format. I wanna convert them to .avi, and hopefully they'll be lossless. Anyone wanna recommend a software title for this?

    Thanks!

It depends on the codec you use. If you choose a lossless codec then the conversion will be lossless, but the files will be far larger in size. There are no AVI compatible codecs that are comparable to AVC for quality and size. You could try to package the AVC video in an AVI container, but how plays will depend on what you intend to play it back with. If you re-encode it will Xvid/Divx (the usual culprits when people say they want an AVI file) then you will either have to take a quality hit, or go for a (possibly much) larger file.

I would start by asking yourself why you need to do the conversion.

If you must, Xvid4psp is capable enough for this type of thing.

I am playing the videos on a photo frame that only takes DivX (or XviD) files. I will try xvid4psp! Hopefully it will work. Thanks!

When using xvid4psp, i use .avi hardware for the format, use xvid ultra for the encoding, and the quantizer i set it at 2.5. Well, while encoding, it says 640x360 as the output size. The input is an HD video of 1280x720. How do i set the output video to be as huge? thanks!

In version 5.x you have to go to the Video menu and look under the Resolution option.

In version 6.x you have to add a Resolution filter, then configure the filter to the resolution you want.

It sounds like you have version 5.x

It is worth noting that the hardware option is version is (I believe) limited to Divx home theatre specs, so the widest resolution supported will most likely be 720 pixels. Version 6 supports Divx player specs up to 1080.

The big question is : What does your photo frame support, and what is it's native resolution ?

Many thanks to you, Gunslinger!! The videos are turning out great with xvid4psp!!! I appreciate your help! I found out that i needed to upgrade my video codecs, as i couldn't get 1280x720 output videos with my then-current setup. I upgraded, and the videos turn out awesome!
