What format (codec) to what format? Neither .mp4 or AVI means much, just container names.

Drop it into Gspot 2,70 and see what codec it requires. Then find a converter. I would recommend AutoGK or VirtualDub most times. Or sometimes SUPER will work, but the quality sometimes isn't the best.

Iriverter will also convert mp4 to avi, with minimal fuss.
    MKV: Merely Krappy Video.

Subbers, a request from an avid viewer: Either don't use mkv, or supply avi or mp4 as an alternative.
