My MacPro has been behaving oddly for a few weeks:
MacParDelux now has the feever:
in downloading a file from newsgroup "a" and using MPD the Par2 is reffering back to a completely different file system that came from a very different newsgroup.
I torrented something else, and the AZ torrent thought it was a file from EZ 7z
Bummer.
any ideas? through the whole thing out?
unfortunately I can't find my Mac 10.4 install DVD'S to boot from them and try reparing the permissions and fixing and repairing the boot HD.
you help much appreciated!
BTW: just ordered 10.5!
cheers

You can verify (but not repair) disks without rebooting with Disk Utility. At least you'll know if something's wrong.
From what you're describing, I'm not convinced that your system is hosed, or any app for that matter. -
thanks for your reply
I did repair the permissions and the AZ torrent was re-downloaded and worked fine w the ususal icon. it was never a EZ file. I tried that. so while did it 'change' the icon?
the PAR2 file now refers to the second series of DL's from that same newsgroup ( D1, D2) is now all to D2 so that may indeed be a posters error. before it referred to a file long DLd a while ago to my HD that didn't even come from a NG.
if I check to see if my HD needs repair w the Utilities while booted, will it be able to tell if something is wrong even though it can't repair a mounted drive
and you are absolutely correct that my install DVD's are more important than my towel.
fortunately I think I know where the towel is. maybe!

rotus,
was the torrent file from the EZ-TV group of torrents?
I've had a few of those trunecate when downloaded,
and that would make it think it was .ez instead of
lol.ez-tv.avi for instance.
Reboot the drive and run fsck -y -f or reboot from
the utility CD. Yes, it will stop your downloading for
all of 5 minutes, but would you rather lose 5 minutes
or XX amount of torrents/data?
think about it.....
What I've seen happen in an instance similar to what you're describing
Rotus, is if EVERYTHING is going to to the same location.
You can, or at least should, target everything to one drive, but
target it down to specific subfolders.
For instance, I have a drive that is called DOWNLOADS.
within that drive I have three subfolders, labeled,
Azareus, NG, and Web. Firefox targets web, Azareus torrents
dl and seed from the Azareus folder, and NG is the default target for
Thoth.
Now, I also take it a step further with the NG folder, and save all
my downloads from Thoth into sub folders within the NG folder,
so that all pieces I know for say, countdown30.rar through
countdown30.par are in the same folder, thus avoiding any confusion
on Thoth's or MPD's fault.

Urban Mac User -
thanks Terryj
I repaired my permissions as noted above and rebooted. still looking for the MacPro 10.4 install. its near my towel, maybe.
this may/may not have fixed the torrent issue, but I re downloaded the torrent (From UKTV) and it looked and acted like the standdard AZ torrent.
all of my torrents go to the same place, and all my NG Pars/Rars go to a different place ( folders) still a bit puzzled why the PAR2 w a set of RARs didn't try to unRAR the 'supposed' rars of the same name and picked a rars set that was sitting on my computer for several days as its not yet complete on the NG.
better believe Ill keep a closer eye on 10.5!
BTW too bad for aapl: amazon is cheaper and no shipping (same as aapl) and No Tax!
will wait to go over to make sure my programs work first or try it on a seperate HD!
