    Hey guys!

Having a bit a problem, I am trying to recreate a terminator style video using sony vegas pro, I have come to the part where the outline of objects and people is shown, I have worked out the get a similar effect the outline needs to be done on a minimum of 4 frames, so I find the section of video I need, choose tools > scripting > render image sequence, then double check the selection is correct and the step time is 00:00:00;01, that all works fine, it produces still images of the frames I need to work on. Only problem is the original video is 640x480 but the stills that are created are only 327x240.

So I thought I could be clever and open the video in Virtualdub and find the frames I needed, do a screenshot and crop in photoshop gining the right size images. So I get the size I need but then I notice that Virtualdub does not have the same frame count as Vegas, the 1st frame is easy to locate and Virtualdub shows it as frame 873 at 00:34;920 where as vegas shows frame 1,047 at 00:34;27?!

Is there something im doing wrong or an easier way to do it?

  2. Is this an MPEG source? Are you using VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod?

    AVI with what codec?

Are you aware of the GOP size of this file? These intermediate frames need to be created from the i, b, p frames.

How are you creating/viewing still frames in Vegas Pro? I think I know what is going on but need to test a file similar to yours. Can you post a full GOP or more? Best if it includes fast motion.

Codec is Divx, forgive me but I do not know what 'GOP size' is!?

To process the stills I find the section of video I need, choose tools > scripting > render image sequence, I view them just using window photo gallery.

Divx doesn't record all frames. It records an I frame once per GOP (group of pictures) and change data for the rest. To view frames other than the I frame, a computation is made from the change data.

Vegas can compute preview intermediate frames and you have a choice of preview display resolution and can save displayed stills at that resolution but you must render to all I frames before the file includes intermediate frames (GOP of one).

If you attempt layered or processed effects in Vegas from long GOP input, Vegas computes temporary frames at project resolution in the specified temp folder. You can also look at full frames there.

  7. VirtualDub is using the frame numbers from the 25 fps Divx file and Vegas is using the frame number after conversion to 29.97 fps: 873 * 29.97 / 25 ~= 1,047.

Ahh. If he wants to edit PAL as PAL, the project should be set to PAL. If he wants to edit NTSC, the source should be NTSC.

    Hey guys!

Look like jagabo and edDV are right, the project settings in vegas were set to NTSC!

    Sorry to waste you time!
