I am having all kinds of egg bacon and bubble trying to sync my ipod.
There muyst be something i have to check/uncheck to solve this issue.
Basically i want to fill my ipod up to the top with varies of songs from different hard disks but when i go to sync a load of songs with a different hard disk, i lose all my previously added lot from the hard disk i had connected before!
I have click manually manage my music but when i do that, and add the new lot of songs i click file and i go to click 'sync ipod' but it is greyed out!
so i then click on my device and click the 'music' tab then i tick sync music and doing that seems to be the only way to sync what i have just put on it but then i bloody lose all the previous music on it!
Can someone tlel me their exact settings so i can keep adding and adding music from different hard disks without losing ANY music on the ipod!
Cheers.

Have you talked to an Apple service rep or maybe even someone at an Apple Store about it? Since you do have a relatively new iPod, as I recall, it's probably a good idea to do that. I haven't seen that kind of behavior with mine - I use my iPod with three different computers around the house; one has a full Library, the other two do not. But then, mine's an older 4G iPod... I don't know if they've changed anything in terms of syncing for the new Touch and Classic models.

Just the same options we were discussing here: https://forum.videohelp.com/topic337814.html
...Manually manage, and Enable Disk Use, enabled, more or less. (I don't have my iPod or iTunes handy, at the moment.)
I wonder if chopdog1777's comment at the end of the older post I mentioned above is true (about the new Classic/Touch iPods):
They rework some of the insides and some of the output calls in the firmware would not respond properly.
Did you enable Disk Use and Manually Manage on the older iPod when it was plugged in? You might have had to do it manually, on the older iPod itself, I don't know. I'm even wondering if the newer versions of iTunes change the way it's handled, even for the older iPods. If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -
Hi mate,
Yeah i have uninstalled Itunes many times.
I did have a 30 GB Ipod Video i didnt get this problem with that at all!
I now have the new 80GB slimline Ipod Classic. I have tried restoring it, resetting, uninstalling itunes countless amounts of times, very little people seem to get this problem i have not found anyone else having trouble anywhere!
Apple seem to make themselves anomynous to contact and i had no luck on their support forums.
Maybe you may know an add to reach them on?
Having 'Enable Disk Use' Enabled definately greys out 'Sync Ipod' on the file menu which makes me stuck unless i go to the music tab, click 'Sync All Music' then it would sync what i just added yes but then i take the hard disk away (with the music i juss added it from) and it says there were 100+ problems because (the bunch i just added) cannot be found!
Even if i go unticking a load i just lose them on the ipod too!
Its murder.
Thanks 4 ya help too mate. -
Have a friend who got an 80 GB iPod for his birthday. Started ripping his extensive CD collection using iTunes, and filling up the iPod. After a while, his HDD started getting full, so he deleted what he had ripped so far from the HDD. He had it in his iPod, didn't he?
And on the next sync, clever iTunes sees that the files are no longer on the computer, and deletes them from the iPod too.

SE14man: Do you still have your original packaging for that iPod? They may have a phone number you can call.
When you set 'manual sync,' the sync commands aren't necessary (as far as I've seen). You just drag and drop items from your existing library (or other source outside iTunes) into the iPod library and move/delete/rename/edit items in the iPod library as normal. No need to use the sync commands.
Yes, it generally appears to be iTunes itself that triggers the automatic sync on those other systems. I haven't seen any mention of it happening with other programs... however, I don't know if Winamp and the other programs that allow you to transfer music to and from your iPod are fully compatible with the new Touch/Classic (I haven't checked.)
I'm not sure about the locked-to-one-library note - maybe the newer iPods do this, I don't know. I should admit that with my old 4G, I set it up for Disk Use/Manually Manage from the start, AND have never set up an account with the iTunes Music Store or bought/downloaded any songs from the iTMS. I know it does impose more limits when you do have (protected) iTMS songs in your library and such, but I'm not sure offhand how much that applies to the complete library and not just the songs you've bought. If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -
Hi mate!
How do i 'Manual Sync' I know there is an option to manually manage music but how do i manually sync?
So by doing this i can add all the music i want from various hard disks with it staying in the itunes library and of course the ipod without losing anything! Because obviously when i disconnect the hard disk the songs wont be on the compouter anymore but i sitll expect them to be on the itunes library which usually they are but when i sync the ipod then it says you have 100+ problems the songs arent there anymore to be found on the hard disk which makes me think ah, ill manually manage music then so i tick that and apply! then i go to file> but synbc ipod is then greyed out so i click the music tab and click 'sync all music' and then for some reason that automatically unticks 'manually manage my music'
so you were saying 'manual sync' is a way round that problem?
Thanks mate. -
Sync, in this case, means to keep two things exactly the same. You don't want that.
Since I enabled disk use and manual manage first thing on my iPod, I'm going to assume that normally, iTunes handles everything in one single Library. With Manually Manage enabled, iTunes should view your iPod as having its own Library (see the attached picture). You can modify the iPod's Library the same way you would the normal iTunes Library, and they (both the iPod Library and iTunes' normal Library) won't match each other unless you specifically make it that way by copying/moving and deleting songs. Add songs/etc. by dragging them onto the iPod name in the left window pane, from the normal iTunes library or any other source (such as Windows' Explorer).
Of course, I'm not entirely sure if that works the same for all models of iPod, especially the new ones, and whether it works the same if you have music downloaded from the iTMS on your iPod (or at least 'authorized' for it).
