HDMI passthrough of PAL vs. NTSC signals?

Hello Gurus,

When a receiver does "HDMI passthrough" - does it matter if the input signal is in PAL or NTSC?

I.e. If my input signal is in NTSC (X-Box) going to my NTSC compatible TV ... BUT connected through my A/V receiver which is a PAL unit - then will the signal get scrambled? ... or will the signal just get "passed through" without any problems?

I don't understand how this signal passthrough happens and I don't want to waste a lot of money buying the wrong device(s).

Good question that should be asked to manufacturer. The issue is 25/50 vs. 29.97/59.94 frame rates at HD since frame sizes are the same. Complicating factors may be HDCP encryption and sound stripping for the receiver-amp.

My understanding is only a few current receivers support HDCP encryption which will be required in the future for passing Blu-Ray or HD DVD video or stripping audio.
