needing vts/ vob to avi converter

hi all, i'm looking for any program that with change vts/vob into avi, i can rip the files off dvd to my HD but what i'm after is not the full movie just small bit roughly 15 - 20 secs of video out of the files then to rejoin then as a different file once collected, if anyone knows a good program for changing to avi would be a good help

Hi-

You can cut sections or pieces from your VOBs using MPEG2Cut, among other programs. Then open the VOB section in AutoGK, set a file size and let it go to work. That's one way, anyway.

However, you can only rejoin the resulting AVIs if they all have the same properties (resolution and audio, among other things). So, you might set a width common for all of them in AutoGK, and you might set the audio to CBR 128. That should make it easier to join the pieces when all done. You might also consider doing a 1-pass Target Quality encode (the default 75% is good) so that all the pieces get the same quality.

There are also ways to join the VOB pieces together before converting to AVI.
