Hello all, I have been finding problems with my backups, there are tons of fragments and artifacts on my backups. I dont know what is causeing the problem.

I use RipIt4Me on "The life and Death of Bobby Z" (Movie Only) no compression required. Then I burned with Nero Express from Nero Ultra edition 8, onto a Memorex DVD-R 4.7GB disk @ 4x. I throw it into my DVD player a week later and its all jacked up.

Now I dont know if its my Disk, Burning program, DVD Player or what. Its driving me crazy. Now I am afraid to go through some of my other backups that I have never checked, cause I have already watched them.

The first thing I would try is to burn with ImgBurn instead of Nero. Use 'Build' mode if you have a VIDEO_TS folder. Memorex DVD media can be marginal, depending on who actually made it. I would suggest trying a different brand.

In the case of that movie DVD, you shouldn't be making any changes in the format or bitrate, just burning the 'movie only', which is apparently smaller Than 4.37GB. But Nero products often have a bad habit or re-encoding even DVD compliant material. A sure sign is how long it takes. Burning is less than 16 minutes with most any burning speed. An hour or two is an encode, instead.

Or it could be a burner problem or a player problem, but those are not as common.

It looks as though the disks play fine on both of my DVD drives in my PC. No fragments or artifacts. Which makes me think that it may be my DVD player that is the problem, and not the burning process or the disks.

Still though does anyone have a though as to why this is happening, I did go through some of my other disks and I am having the same problem with them in my DVD player. All of them done with RipIt4Me, DVD Shrink, and Nero Express.

  4. 1.Are you using adhesive labels?If so DON'T.
2.Use Nero CD-DVD Speed to check disc for errors.
3.Do pressed DVD's play ok on your DVD player? If not it's the player.
I agree with redwudz that the problem is most likely the software and media being used.

Pressed DVD's have always worked fine on my player, I just watched "Home of the Brave" last night on in.

Ok, now I have tried the "Bobby Z" disk in my PS2 it plays worse, Xbox1 it does not even recognize the disk. But my pc plays it perfectly, no problems at all.

Why would my PC play the disks fine but my DVD player mess up....?

Well I am updating the firmware in my Samsung DVD Burner, and I am also going to try ImageBurn instead of Nero.

I guess alot of other programs will burn even DVD format files (VIDEO_TS) as data.....and not as DVD or something like that....and ImageBurn does it the right way????

Yes, ImgBurn understands the format. It will take a DVD VIDEO_TS folder and burn it properly to DVD media. That's what 'Build' is for. It is also one of the best programs to burn dual layer DVDs. And it can also burn image formats, and data formats, and even CD data discs.

ImgBurn is freeware. You might consider taking some time to thank the author, Lightning UK! He is also the author of DVD Decrypter. We really need to encourage our freeware authors so they can continue to create programs that all of us can use. Send the freeware authors a few $ if you are able. Or at least tell them how you appreciate their efforts.

Well I just burned out a new DVD using ImgBurn. I used RipIt4Me to decryped "Shinobi", then InterVideo DVD Copy 5 to Compress it, then ImgBurn to Burn it.

I am still getting the same fragmentation, and Xbox1 is still not recognizing it as a DVD. My PC still plays them perfectly though.

Why would my pc play fine and my DVD player get them all messed up....?

Any disc you burn with pc dvd burner will playback fine on a computer. What brand of dvd media are you using? Use DVDINFO PRO or CD/DVD SPEED to find out the MEDIA ID of the dvd media that you're using. My suggestion is to use DVDFAB DECRYPTER to rip "SHINOBI" to your hard drive. Then to use DVD SHRINK to compress it. Within DVD SHRINK you can direct it to create a ISO image instead of the VIDEO_TS folder. Then use IMGBURN to burn that ISO image you created with DVD SHRINK. RIPIT4ME is no longer updated so use the latest version of DVDFAB DECRYPTER.

What model number is your SAMSUNG dvd burner? If you're using crappy dvd media like MEMOREX, TDK, OFFICE DEPOT, etc then you could have problems with them playing back correctly in standalone dvd players. Just my 2 cents!!!!!
