    What do people use to browse the container/codec/etc for a lot of files? The three I know of are:
    Explorer details view with extra columns (pretty limited).
    As above with Haali Media Splitter (still missing mpeg and mpeg-4).
    Gspot (one file at a time, less info for mpeg-4 when in MP4 vs AVI).

    One problem with explorer is no container, so you can't spot a file type mismatch.

    Winamp made me aware of the existence of "strange things"
    such as .alac and .3gp 8)

  3. MediaInfo will work

    File => Open => Folder

    You can toggle different views (just play with it a bit). You probably want "sheet" view if you want to see a list of container/codec

    Cheers

    GSpot is one file at a time because the only sure way to ID some files is to render them and that takes time.

    Are you looking to run a batch of assorted media files?
