Can all 16X speed DVD burn at speed of 8X? I used to burn it with Memorex DVD and the maximum speed my DVD burner support is 8X and the 16X Memorex DVD burns at 8X, now I tried Office Depot Brand 16X DVD and the available speed is 2X and 4X, help.

what's the brand & model of your dvd burner? it would depend on whether or not the firmware on your dvd burner is capable of burning 16x spd.

Do you know if this is related to driver being outdated? If so where can I get the latest driver for this device? -
it would depend on the firmware supporting that particular media id which the OFFICE DEPOT brand can either be RITEK or RICOH media id. it's probably because your drive doesn't support the media id. you'd probably have to update your firmware on your drive. just because the MEMOREX media allows you to burn at 8x speed, it doesn't mean the OFFICE DEPOT brand will do the same. every manufacturer of dvd media uses different media id's.
use discinfo to find out what firmware your drive has.

below is the latest firmware for your dvd burner.

i would suggest you use better dvd media like VERBATIM & TAIYO YUDEN. MEMOREX & OFFICE DEPOT are considered crap media. -

Office Depot brand is Ritek and it's able to write at 8X so it must be my burner's problem of not identifying the media id.
Is there any ways to hack it? Adding the id to the driver?

This guy burned it with his burner, can I copy those unique numbers on the bottom to my driver opening in notepad and save it, will that work? -
Burn speed isn't driver related. The media id's and their supported burn speeds are stored in the firmware of the drive. If there isn't an updated firmware for your drive, then you should deal with the slower speeds, upgrade to a newer burner, or switch to a differernt media.

I've ran 3 Panny's and all did not upgrade firmware.
All wrote at the posted maximum speed.
All were pretty good readers, with the oldest being the best.
I'd burn it at 8X - the Panny won't reject it.
I believe there's something different (perhaps more basic) in their write
strategy.;/ l ,[____], Its a Jeep thing,

I'd just grab a new burner. You can get a new one over @ scan.co.uk for $15-20 GBP, including VAT. I like my Pioneer DVR-112, but LG, Samsung, Lite-On are all good and popular drives. I'd stay away from NEC (mine was crap and MANY people have had problems w/ 3550a's)...And Optiarc is trash unless something's changed recently (NEC/Sony drives). -

Yes and as a matter fact will produce more accurate burns. As far as I have read anything past 8X isn't as long term reliable. -
So there isn't any ways I can burn the Office Depot brand 16X DVD+R @8X speed?

TDK is crappy media. Buy some VERBATIM dvd media. Or upgrade your dvd burner.

What do you guys think about this? If this can record the Office Depot brand DVD+R at 16X I'll be happy, plus this is 20X burner -
why do you wanna continue using crappy OFFICE DEPOT dvd media? buying a 20x dvd burner is fine and dandy but use good quality dvd media like VERBATIM & TAIYO YUDEN. if you don't care about using good quality dvd media then continue to use crap media. over a period of time the dye on the crap media will deteriorate to where the disc can no longer be read back correctly or even played. so in other words don't be using it for important data or movies you cherish.
