Office Depot CD-R bad or not?

Around a year ago I bought some Office Depot CD-R 52x after reading they were good quality media, but I've had about a 50% bad result burning at 24x using LiteOn 24x10x40x CDRW drive. All CD-R complete burn using Nero, but about half fail to work, i.e. autorun doesn't start, executing setup using Explore doesn't work, etc. However, they seem to work fine if burned at 20x or slower. Did I get a bad batch of CD-R, or could it be the CDRW drive doesn't burn reliably at it's max speed?

IMHO burning data under 16x would be best and try using CDXP Burner instead of NERO. I don't even have NERO on any of my computers since I use IMGBURN and CDXP burner for CD discs. That LITEON cd burner must be ancient since it's a 24x burner. Time to upgrade to a new dvd burner which you can buy for $20.00 at Newegg.

BTW the Asus drive is a rebadged LITEON drive.

The LiteOn cd burner is old as I got it some time in the 1990s. Would it still be a good idea to burn data under 16x even with newer burners? I've never had any problem using Nero, and results at 20x or lower are good even with this old burner. BTW I already have DVD burner, but I use the CD burner for CDs to save wear and tear on the DVD burner.

A lot of 52x CD-R don't work well below 24x-40x burn speed. It depends on the burner and discs.
Office Depot CD-R are not exactly top-shelf discs, either.

Must have been way late 90's, probably more like early 2000's as i have a burner that was brand new & manufactured in 97-98 with a top burning speed of 2x @ a rebate cost of $150.00.
I'm not 100% positive but i'm pretty sure they did not have cd burners that burned that fast at the time let alone media that would.

Anyways, regardless of what disc or burner i always burn at 16x tops!! usually 8X, no hurry as it's not like 700mb takes long to burn at that speed.

Every time anyone i have ever known or myself, when a disc won't read or plays screwy, espc in a car cd player, i always tell them, stop burning at the highest speed and drop it to 16X or lower and when they burn them at the lower speed they always work.
