    i heard that we can compress a video by using virtualdub. can someone teach me how to do it?

    Yep,
    Open the video in virtualdub or virtualdubmpeg2
    Select video->Compression and choose a video compression like divx or xvid and select a bitrate, lower bitrate = lower file size
    File->Save as a new avi

    Another easier method is to use autogk, open the video and set the output file size and convert.

    Or do you want some other video output format than avi divx/xvid?
    And what is your source video file format?

    'AVI' is just the name of the container. It could be anything from DV-AVI to Xvid. Drop one in Gspot 2.70 and it will tell you the format and codec and quite a bit of other useful information. I'm guessing Xvid or similar. You can follow Baldrick's instructions and use a lower bitrate to re-encode the file.
