how do you compress video

I have a video that is like 5.2 gigs which has to get down to less than 4.7 gigs. I want to add movie transitions and motion menus as well. So how do i get this video compressed?

First you author the video with your favorite authoring program.
Then take the authored video into either Dvd Shrink or Nero Recode (part of the nero 7 package) to shrink it to fit a DVD disc.

You want a 5.2gig file , include transitions , motion menu's ... the works ?

But it is only 4.3gig max for sl dvd media , not 4.7gig

Revise project or video quality may suffer considerably ... consider pulling the audio out later , and convert to ac3 , remux back before dvdshrink comes any where near it , might help .

But what are all those extra's going to addup to in the final state will still cost you .

If you have Nero Recode you also have Nero Vision which will do what you want and produce a DVD that will fit on a DVD-5 blank without any extra steps. Try it and see if the results suit your needs.
