Premier 5.5 and DV capture/edit....

I have Premier 5.5 and also have a Firewire card for use with my DV camcorder (Panasonic)..... I can only seem to capture DV from the camera in Movie Maker in WinXP. Does anybody know how to capture DV into Premiere 5.5 and how to edit it - as when I try to open a DV AVI file in Premiere it tells me that I have no CODEC installed!!!!

HELP!!! Where do I get a DV codec????

Premiere 5.5 does not work with many capture cards. Your best bet is to capture into Movie maker and see if you can convert the avi file into a type 2 dv avi. I believe you should be able to open the files in Premiere under that format. If It keeps asking for the Codec you can try reinstalling movie maker, I had some issues when I installed Premiere after the capture programed I used. So hopefully that might work. Don't forget to get all updates for Premiere from the adobe site.Good Luck, let me know if any of this helps.
