  1. Hi All,

My Pioneer 575A DVD player is able to play XVid files. Unfortunately the firmware more than 2 years old now and it does not support the latest XVid 1.1.2 version. It starts playing the movie, but audio and video out of sync. However, the file is correct I can watch it on my PC without any problem.

Finally I used GSpot and I figured out the version of the XVid file is now newer than the DVD player can support. I think there is no hope in the near futere to get any firmware update for this model.

Could anybody write me an easy and fast method how I can convert an XVid movie version 1.1.2 to XVid version 1.03?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Cornelius

It could also be a gmc or qpel problem, you can remove it and reencode with AVI ReComp.

Or maybe try convert to Divx using AutoGK, Dr. DivX.

Or else just dig up an old xvid codec and convert with virtualdub or an older version of autogk or avi recomp.

  3. Try using Mpeg4Modifier to see if the file uses packed bitstream. If it has packed bitrstream you can unpack it in a minute or so with the program. That may be enough.

  4. Thank you, Baldrick and jagabo!

I could run the Mpeg4Modifier and I saw the gmc was used in that file. Then I run AVI ReComp to remove it, and now my Pio is able to play the file. This is I wanted.

    Thank you again!

You can also use utilities like GSpot and MediaInfo to get detailed information about an AVI, including whether or not it uses packed bitstream, GMC, QPEL, etc.
