Video error when playing .avi file - what to do?

This is the error I get when I try to play the video in The Core Media Player:


I've tried playing it on other programs on the same computer, with consistent errors (I screenshot and included this one as it seemed as if it would be the most useful). I've never had this error on any video before.

What can I do?

Get GSpot and ask it to 'render' the file. It will tell you what is missing.

That error is a Windows dll error, but it can be a bear to trace.
