The problems is not that it wont play, i have burnt to both + and - discs and these are playing on most players, but my friend who asked me to do this wedding project for her, has tried both formats and each time the lcd screen display on their philips dvp520 player says "root".
Interestingly the menu does appear on their tv but it isnt allowing her to select any chapters. There is nothing they can do except just see the menu. It is working fine on 3 different players in my house and many other friends houses, just not in hers or her mums.

I am using avid liquid version 7 and using the "burn dvd direct to disc option" which is the one i have used for 5 other weddings recently. Her instruction manual confirms that the player does play +r/+rw. Anyone please please help. Her parents are aso having the same problem, they have Sony HXD870 dvd recorder.

My first response would be that it is a media issue, especially if it is working in some players and not others. Ensure you are using a quality media (TY and Verbatim are the most highly regarded).

I would also recommend using a tool such as DVDinfoPro ( http://www.dvdinfopro.com/ ) or NeroCDspeed to verify your discs are free of errors after burning.

I am using verbatim discs, i have taken the master disc and another copy from my own house which works on all my dvd players and this doesnt work on their player. The format is ok, i have studied the specification of their player, nothing unusal or different than a bulk standard player.

Then if you are sure of the media, the only other option is the player is failing. Lasers wear out over time (lose power) and begin to have trouble reading discs. The first type of discs to exhibit playback issues are recordable discs.
