I have a Telefunken VCR that i'm using to capture video through my Hauppauge WINTV card (BT878 chipset). I seem to be able to capture video ok but whenever i fast forward on my VCR (with picture) Virtual Dub or any other capture application freezes after a while and i cannot even kill the actual process. It doesn't help opening a 2nd VDub or anything else as it seems like it's the driver or something that has crashed. This is very annoying as i need to preview everything at normal play-speed before capture to not risk the application (or driver?) crashing.

It doesn't seem to matter what compression codec i choose.

    I'm using the btwincap drivers.

Could anyone help me with this problem? Thanks in advance!

So, am I to understand that you are capturing with VirtualDub?

If you are, you might want to try the software that came with your Hauppauge unit - it should be WinTV2000. That should fix you up.

    Welcome RedFarmer

    dadrab's advice is correct .

However , if you want to keep using vdub ... you should set multi segment capture , and set "name increment" .
Setup vdub , start recording , and leave it till entire tape has completely played back .

Slice and dice using vdubs append feature later .

Fast forwarding cause's the device to loose track of input signal ... bad idea when considering the use of btwincap drivers ... its just bad practice in general .

Either do it as mentioned , or shutdown vdub to release the capture device , fast forward to next part , reset vdub's capture to new avi to proceed with next capture .
