    Hi.

I am using Philips DVR-109 with the latest firmware update to burn Divx movies onto DVD-Rs. I was able to select burn speed, while I was using Roxio 8. I uninstalled it because it was causing errors and tried Cheetah DVD burner and Free CD DVD Burner from koyotesoft. Now, I cannot select any speed lower than 16X rated for my DVD-Rs. I am still able to select the speed for CD-Rs.

Any advise or insight will be very much appreciated.

I thought ImgBurn was for DVDs only. I though writing a Divx movie as a data file on a blank CD or several movies (several data files) on a DVD is a totally different project. If I am wrong, please, explain how to use ImgBurn. I launched it, but could not find a way to write a data project. Thank you.

Thank you, but I am sorry, I still do not understand, how I can use ImgBurn for this purpose. The Build mode will create an ISO file, a single file to be burned on a disk, whereas I would like to store movies as separate .avi files on a DVD-R disc.

Go to the "Output" menu and select "Device" instead of "Image File".

(This was shown in the guide I linked to, BTW.)

An .ISO does NOT always mean there is video in there. You can create an ISO image of/containing a data CD or DVD as well.

If you still have problems....look into my personal favorite simple burning app.... Prassi Ones.
Not free but it has a 30 free trial and it is inexpensive and not loaded with useless crap like Nero.

    Jim:
Thank you. I followed your instructions regarding selecting "Device", and it worked. ImgBurn showed burning speed of appr. 4x (as I set it) and burned a 4.7 Gb DVD-R in 13 minutes. It is close to what is quoted by others on internet.

One more question. When I put the DVD-R in a standalone Divx player, movie titles were all in capital letters, with words separated by underscore signs. Is it something I can fix by changing settings in the Options, File System?

    hech54:
thanks for your advice regarding the Prassi player. I have never heard of it, but I will give it a try. I have just gotten rid of the monstrous Roxio. I am scared of Nero, as I suspect it is another monster. So I am looking for something small and straightforward.

    Best regards.

In ImgBurn 'Settings>Build', there is a option for 'Uppercase File/Folder Names' you can uncheck. The underscore is probably to eliminate empty spaces that some programs don't like in filenames. If you go to 'Settings>Graph Data' you can uncheck 'Replace Spaces with Underscores'.

Glad you had success, mekuka_pinasem. I haven't made many changes in the "Settings" area, but looks like redwudz has you covered there.

    Happy burning!

    Thank you, Jim44 and redwudz.

Let me ask you one more question. I do not have any trouble with data DVD discs. They write and verify OK. Burning audio CDs and ripping works well, too.

But any time I try to write a data CD, I get an error during verify. Burning itself goes well. For example, if I put a Divx movie on a CD, it usually plays back well, despite a "verify" error.

Also, when I try to copy a large file off a data CD to the hard drive, the computer hangs.

None of these things happen with data DVDs. I am wondering what is wrong with CDs. My DVD burner is updated.

Any ideas of why it may be happening. Thanks again.

I used to LOVE Roxio when it only did CDs. As soon as they picked up DVD burning it went downhill and fast. I'd still be using Roxio Easy CD Creator if it worked on XP SP2...but it doesn't.

As far as your data CD trouble....I used to think that all blank CD's were the same....and for the most part that is true....except for this 50 pack of Philips CDR's I bought....total crap....and I'm a Philips fan for the most part.

I have tried many different brands of CD-Rs over time. Also, the problem was ther with Roxio, then with Cheetahburner and now with ImgBurn. Interstingly, the computer reads and rips Cds OK, and writes well, just does not want to verify.

If you have any ideas, please, let me now. thank you.

If you are having similar issues with multiple brands/types of discs, then it is possible you just have a faulty burner.

I replaced Lite-On DVD burner last year that would play and RIP original DVD's just fine. It would also burn discs without generating any errors, but it often couldn't read any of the discs that it burned and none of the discs would pass error testing.
