  1. my wife won a sony HT-DDW990 home theatre system from work. i hooked it up and have a coaxial audio cable running from the pioneer dvd player to the receiver.

the audio sounds good to me, but i'm wondering why the lit digital display shows "DOLBY DIGITAL 3 / 2.1" when a DVD starts playing... shouldn't it say "5.1" or is 3 + 2.1 = 5.1? The manual mentions nothing about what appears on the display. I think (can't find a dts right now) DTS discs say the same thing 'DTS 3 / 2.1'

    this is my manual fyi...

A lot of players display 5.1 in this manner. No biggie.

  4. You can try hooking up your PC's Coaxial Output to the reciever and see what the display says.
Whatever it says, you can then open up your Audio Card software and preform a Speaker Test to see if it will actually output sounds to each individual speaker properly.

  5. thanx. yeah, i'm pretty sure that i have DD and dts working... i think it's a Sony nomeclature thing... 3 + 2 +.1 = 5.1 The Sony self-calibration worked fine with the setup I have.

Yep that is Sony's system. I have an older Sony 5.1 dd and dts receiver. It says the same thing on the dd setting. Don't worry you're getting the 5.1.

My LG and even my newer Pioneer display it the same way. My older Pioneers didn't.
