  1. Hello all,
I have a big VOB file (1.7 GB) which I like to convert to Xvid/DivX
I've tried to use VirtualDubMod and convert the file to Xvid but the result is an interlaced Xvid.
When I convert the VOB to DivX (which has a progressive option), there's a "trace" of interlacing but it's not as noticeable as with the Xvid avi.
Also, I've a small program called X Video Converter which does the job beautifully, but only for vobs smaller than 1GB.
So, no matter what I try, i can't convert the VOB to a good quality AVI.
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

  3. I've installed AutoGK but i don't know where to start. When I run the program I get a very detailed GUI which doesn't appear in the manual.
I saw a link (https://www.videohelp.com/toolsimages/autogk_452.jpg) which is probably what I need but I don't seem to find it on my computer.
Any idea where I can get it, or how do I execute it?

Note: I need to convert a VOB file and I don't have any IFO file attached to it.

    Thanks

Make sure you find the radio button which says "file input". It should accept the VOB file by itself.

  5. It's very weird. I've installed AutoGordianKnot.2.40.Setup and also AutoGordianKnot.2.40.Update and when I run the program I get a program which title is: Gordian Knot 0.35.0 which doesn't resemble what I see in the Manual:

Did I install the wrong program?

Sounds like it to me. Gordian Knot is the big brother to Auto Gordian Knot, or AutoGK, and quite a bit more complex. If it doesn't look like the tutorial, then it's not the right one. Except for some minor changes over time, the GUI has remained unchanged. The current version of AutoGK is 2.40. The current version of GKnot is 0.35 (I think).

Did you get your AutoGK from here:

I think if you just get the 2.40 full package, you should be OK. No update.

  7. Thanks, I will check it.
I have another question. As I mentioned in the beginning, when I convert the VOB using VirtualDubMod to Xvid, I get a very interlaced avi.
Any suggestions on how to create a progressive avi using VDMod or at least why does it happen?

NTSC DVDs are 29.97fps. Movies are 23.976fps. For DVD there are 2 ways to get from 23.976fps to 29.97fps. One is to encode for progressive 23.976fps and apply flags (software, sort of) to repeat fields so that the output is interlaced 29.97fps. VDubMod will ignore those flags and show you only the 23.976fps progressive frames. The other way is to telecine it and encode the full interlaced 29.97fps. That's probably what happened in your case. In addition, it's always possible you have a bad PAL2NTSC conversion, which is also interlaced. Without a sample, it's hard to know, really.

If it's hard telecined interlaced 29.97fps, you perform an IVTC to bring it back to progressive 23.976fps. The VDub IVTC filter isn't so good. The preferred way to handle this is through an AviSynth script file. AutoGK can analyze the source and, if necessary, perform the IVTC by frameserving into VDubMod using AviSynth.

To tell if you have an interlaced hard telecined 29.97fps source, scroll to a place with movement and start advancing a frame at a time. If, in every 5 frame cycle you see 3 clean clear progressive frames and 2 interlaced frames, it's hard telecined and will benefit from an IVTC.

  11. Use the smartdeinterlace filter for Virtualdub.
