  1. I'm trying to convert a music video DVD into AVI for the shake of size.

The original DVD has 2 audio tracks and a video @ 720 X 480, it is about 5 min long
The audio track is 15MB each making both = 30MB, so 170MB was left for the video

I want to get the target size to 50MB and the best audio quality i can get, I've choosen the new resolution to be 352x272 Xvid, and i'm wondering what VBR mp3 bitrate should i use for audio to get the closest quality to the original and still maintain a viewable video lol.

So far i thought about keeping the original audio, but that only leaves 20MB for the video, not sure if that's even enough. Or i'll use 192+ bitrate MP3. still checking, but i'm not sure if anyone got a clue on how to approach this.

At that resolution, 600kbps is good. 21MB.
You could keep the original audio.

mp3 with pop/rock at 192kbps vbr is good.

cool, that's actually pretty good estimation, i actually did the math, and i figure i could went with 320kbps CBR and still got decent pictures. thanks. I have a bunch of foreign music video that needed organization, just have to convert them all and be over with. Auto GK seems really good for this But i think i'm gonna go with the original audio, convertsion always loose some quality.
