I bought a Certified DivX DVD Player, and I usually burn 6 AVI (DivX/Xvid) movies on 1 single Data DVD and watch them.
Is there a way to add the subtitle and watch the movie with the subtitles?
I guess I can merge the subtitle with the Video file to create a video file that’s contains the subtitle.
But is there a way to add the subtitle file separately, so the video file will stay untouched and to save time.

Many divx dvd players supports external subtitles files. You name the video and subtitle like video.avi and video.srt (or video.sub /idx).

You could also mux/add the subtitle in the avi/divx with avisub or sub2divx. The video will be untouched.

External subs are not part of Divx, so support varies from player to player. Your manual should give you an idea of what it supports.

SRT format generally works best. You can put it in an external file. Some player require you to name the subtitle and the movie file with the same name, like this:
    MYFILM.AVI (name of the movie)
MYFILM.SRT (name of the subtitles file)
Other players, such as Philips, don't care and you can name the movie and subtitle file anything you like, you just have to select the subtitle file first before playing the movie as that associates the subtitle file with the AVI file you want to play. If you mux the subtitles into the container, you should be aware that unless the player is Divx 6 certified that it probably won't recognize the subtitles. The safest way to make this work is to keep the subtitles in a separate file.

Finally, do note that while many standalone DVD player that support Divx support subtitles, the SUB format that they often claim to support is a text based format that is not in any way related to the image files that Subrip produces and Subrip subtitle files rarely work on standalone players.
