I just built my new PC and installed XP. I notice when I do a search on some of my video files, some are listed as "video clips" versus windows media file. When I try to open these using windows media player I just get an error saying codec not found. Not sure what this is or how to remedy it. Is there a specific codec I need to be downloading? Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks!

I should add that I used to have an ATI AIW card which allowed me to open videos with it but the Hauppauge card I got (TV-150) doesn't seem to allow that....only watch cable not saved video files.

Use gspot or mediainfo to gain info on these files. You'll see the codec required.
Post the info here if you need help

Thanks! Got it. Thanks for the help. It has been so long since I have re-installed windows I just assumed it would take care of playing most video files but for some reason didn't play these (they were layer-3 mpegs...)
