When I import a song into iTunes it is a m4a file type, I want to use a music track in Adobe Premiere but it won't let me import the music track, is there a way to convert a song imported into iTunes to a file type that will work in Premiere?

If you're importing music into iTunes, why not just use the original files with Premiere? (Edit #2: By that, I mean use a CD ripper such as CDEX or EAC (or any other CD ripper of your choice) to create MP3 files from the CDs. Or, you can also tell iTunes to import CD tracks in MP3 format - just go to Edit > Preferences, then click the Advanced tab in the Preferences window. After that, click the Importing sub-tab. In the "Import Using:" dropdown, pick "MP3 Encoder", and you might want to choose a bitrate in the "Setting:" dropdown.)
M4As are generally unprotected (DRM iTunes tracks should have the m4p extension, if I remember correctly), so you should be able to use a number of converters to convert the m4a files to mp3. I know dbPowerAmp Converter can do it (with an additional codec component for it installed)... not sure about other converters that can do it directly, but anything that can convert from AAC should theoretically be able to convert them to mp3.
(Edit: Yes, with paulw's method you'd generally rip the tracks from the audio CD you created to MP3.)If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
