What is wrong with VLC now? I replaced my Panther G4 eMac 1.25GHz desktop this week with a Tiger G4 1.67GHz Powerbook because the eMac power supply died.

After doing a clean erase and install from the restore dvds, I put back all my software. Only VLC doesn't seem to work well. It plays choppy when streaming. Quicktime works fine.

Audacity and ffmpegX are also installed and they work fine. MPlayer doesn't work well, but then, the OSX version never did.

VLCplays aiff files too fast. If I export the aiff file from Audacity as an ogg or wav or mp3, then VLC plays it correctly.

I'm using the latest stable ppc version 0.86b.

Yikes! Sorry to hear that. VLC works fine with Tiger for me on my G4, but I've never tried to play aiff files. I hope that a reinstall will work well for you. I wonder if a clean reinstall of ffmpegx with all of it's different codecs would help VLC as well...
Wish I could return the favor of your helpful past advice!

The clean reinstall went okay, but VLC still wouldn't play an aiff or stream mp3's.

I almost messed after the reinstall. I have the original Wiretap for Panther. The "new" version is a pest. It has a splash time-delay startup that bugs you for money. After trying the new version, I deleted it and ran the version for Panther.

After that I had no system sounds and the line-out was greyed out as a choice for output of system sounds. I don't really care for the system sounds and would have left it that way, but I needed to update QT. After the QT update the system sounds were back, but now QT will keep playing in the background, even minimized. That means I can listen to internet radio using QT while doing other things.

Wiretap quit working after the QT upgrade. I'll use Audacity for wiretapping now. The only files I can't recode on a mac are Real audio, but Audacity can capture raw and export as a MS wav that VLC accepts.
