I converted a VCD to DVD using ffmpegX, and it worked brilliantly. In attempting to convert that DVD to avi, it worked one time, and now I'm getting:

    AppleScript Error
Can't make "25 fps" into type number. (-1700)

when I hit Encode. It is a 25 fps movie with subtitles built into the VCD. Also, when I hit Preview under the Filters tab, I get:

    AppleScript Error
    Can't get text item 2 of "25 fps". (-1728)

Is there some tag somewhere that says "25 fps" where it shouldn't? If so, is there any way to fix that, or should I look for some kind of VCD -> AVI direct solution (couldn't find one of those either)?

As an aside, a list of all the error messages would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: I attempted to use both the straight VOB and the VIDEO_TS as target files, both failed in the above fashion.

You can (and probably should) go directly from VCD to AVI, using ffmpegx. You may have to rip the .dat VCD file first. Use the ffmpegx tools section to do that. Then, drop the mpg file it produces onto ffmpegx, and you should be good to go.

I don't know what those applescript errors ("not an integer" and "no such disk") are complaining about, but perhaps if you post the progress logfile's contents, we'd have more to go on. Just click on the blue "i" button in the progress window.

    Thanks for the reply!

I'm not seeing a section under Tools where I can rip the .DAT file, nor go directly from VCD to AVI. Would you mind going through a more detailed walk through?

Also, the two error messages I mentioned were dialogue windows, not errors in the progress logfile. In fact, these AppleScript messages prevented the progress from even starting.

    Thanks again.

Since you were already able to go from vcd to dvd, then try doing the same thing, but select a different target format.

If you need to rip first and there is no tool in ffmpegx to do so, use vcdgear first.

The applescript error might be interpreted as complaining about a pathname problem. Check that you have no special characters (like spaces) in the pathname.
