Anything free out there that may help my corrupted registry? I was using an old version of Ulead MovieFactory 4.0 and have fallen victim. I had a feeling it had corrupted something. I now read it's the registry. Now, most of my video programs don't work.

I already tried RegScrub and RegSeeker
Max Registry Cleaner still sees 5326 invalid entries

Will have to reformat the drive this fall I guess.

    Thx

Have you tried System Restore back to before the point you installed the software?

It's not so hard to remove files in the registry, but it is harder to change them so they work properly. I would try a few things, but if you have a major problem, a reinstall of the OS may be one of the best cures.

The registry has all the setups and indexes where the program files are located. You could replace it with a new version, but none of your programs may work.

For future reference, you can easily back up your registry and save the copy off site. But 'Restore' usually does this. If not, you have a bigger problem.

If you suspect Ulead, delete all registry entries that may apply. Only do this if reinstall is the other alternative. That way you have little to lose.

Looks like a bunch of double entries of Ulead in the registry. I think this was the problem in one of the posts I read. I also see a ton of old stuff long removed. Probably too much adding programs and removing them.
I'll mess with it a bit more but now have noticed my video aps are all throwing the same unspecified error or freeze the computer including MSP7, MF4, Tmpgenc, Quenc, Procoder, wmm, & wme. Only thing left to try is Super.
That CCleaner did a great job of finding over 4 gigs of crap. Unfortunatley, it also screwed up my dun. Gotta get rid of all this stuff for the big reformat.
    Thx

  8. Usually its best for us if we know what kind of computer & OS you have.
You can also plop in your OS disk & select to repair.

Holy crap...I just made it back. The whole OS crashed like a mofo. It disabled my dialer, CD & DVD burners and a ton of other stuff. I've never seen anything like it. Fortunately, I've backed up monthly so it's no big deal...more of an inconvenience.
    Thx

  10. I had something like that with a Compaq. Turned out to be a memory chip.
