I have this BIOSTAR mobo which is inexpensive and works well for me. I have a core2 duo E6400 processor w/2gb ddr2 pc677 kingston memory overclocked to 2.30ghz. I use this computer strictly for video encoding. If you're upgrading to core2duo processor you're going to need to upgrade to ddr2 memory w/a new mobo. There are some core2duo mobo's that can use ddr400 memory but it's wise to upgrade to a mobo w/ddr2 memory instead. That's my 2 cents!

Good point about the power supply. 450-500W or a little more is good. It's also nice to have one with the 24 pin ATX connector, but not required. But you do need the 4 pin CPU PS plug. A 450-500W PS or a little more is good.

Go with one of the major RAM manufacturers with a lifetime warranty, DDR2 800 should work well. RAM prices are fairly low at present.

I've also had good luck with the Gigabyte MBs, but shop around.

You should see a fair improvement with encoding times and multitasking with a dual core CPU and DDR2 memory.
