  1. I have recently bought BENQ DW1800 DVD±R. When I try to burn any data in DVD disc using nero, it burns but give some error msg"error:cant write disc at once". When I insert that dvd disc again in DVD writer, it(dvd writer) unable to read the data in the Disc. When I try to write more data in disc, a error msg appears "not able to write data in an open disc". I could not write any DVD successfully since I have bought it. I have wasted 4-5 discs because of this error. Is the problem with DVD writer or DVD disc or Nero?

Since you are using Nero, you want to check the Nero burning log. The 'can't write disc at once' is more of a result than the error itself. look for the actual error, like these:

DiskPeripheral : IC35L060AVV207-0 IdeChnDr Port 0 ID 1 DMA: Off

    D: CdRom0: SCSIStatus(x02) WinError(0) NeroError(-1046)
    Sense Key: 0x05 (KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST)

One thing to check is if your burner has reverted to PIO mode. That will cause several problems.

To check DMA/PIO mode within Windows:

    Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.

From there, right click on one of the channels and choose 'Properties>Advanced Settings'. All drives should be DMA mode. The 'Current Transfer Mode' for Hard drives is usually DMA 4-6 and DVD burners DMA 2-4, DVD ROMs usually DMA 2. If you see any in PIO mode, that can slow things down. MS says Windows will default to PIO mode after 6 consecutive read failures.

Changing them back may be easy or complicated. First see if you can change them in that window. If not, I usually right click on the channel the drive is on and uninstall the channel, then let the OS reinstall it by rebooting the computer. This will not damage any files on the computer.
And you might post your Nero burn log. Blank out your serial number and the name of your video file.

    And welcome to our forums.

    Thanks for response

    In primary IDE Channel:
    Device 0
    transfer mode: DMA if available
currunt transfer mode: Ultra DMA mode 5

    Device 1
    transfer mode: DMA if available
currunt transfer mode: Ultra DMA mode 5

    In secondry channel:
    Device 0
    transfer mode: DMA if available
    currunt transfer mode: Not Applicable

    Device 1
    transfer mode: DMA if available
currunt transfer mode: Ultra DMA mode 2

    What to do?

If there is a device connected to the secondary channel as Master (secondary channel Device 0), it looks like it is having an issue. Otherwise, it looks like a burner is attached to the Secondary channel as Slave (Device 1). So the settings are good.

For more info, you will need to check or post the Nero error log.

In my experience I have only received the can't write disk at once message from Nero, when I was writing media which were not supported by my drive's firmware.

Even recently purchased drives can have out of date firmware. Particularly recently purchased drives from manufacturers who have left the business. (Lite-On bought the Benq optical operations). Check with the manufacturer's site for updates.

Does that firmware support the media type you are using?

MCSE does not support your drive so you may need to rely on the drive manufacturer's supported media list.

How to check that firmware support the media or not?

  10. FWIW: That Benq 1800 is a rebadged LiteOn LH-181AP. That's a fairly new burner and I assume Benq firmware is based from the LiteOn firmware which should provide rather extensive media support.

Really need to see a complete burn log as Krispy Kritter already noted. Also need to identify the media code of the media in question.

Download CD-DVD Speed v4.7.5.0 from this site:

    http://www.cdspeed2000.com/

Load the program - Select the proper drive if you have more than one optical drive - Select the Disc Info tab - Insert a blank dvd. After a few seconds it will display media code info and the allowable burnspeeds supported by your burner for that type media. Save that screenshot as a .png file and attach it to your next post for all of us to view. Good Luck.

  12. I tried "Prassi one" burner. It is burning the same media successfully. I think there is a problem in the settings of Nero. So I will continue using prassi becuase I dont have much knowledge about Nero settings.
Thanks to u all for helping me.

Update your firmware for your BENQ 1800. Here's a thread on firmware updates at the BENQ FORUM at Cdfreaks.com.

As OneSickPup mentioned your drive is a rebadged LITEON LH-181AP. You can also crossflash your drive to the LITEON firmware as well. Do a search in the BENQ/LITEON FORUM at Cdfreaks.com. I've crossflashed my LITEON LH-181AP to the BENQ 1800 firmware successfully and have flashed it back to LITEON firmware w/out any problems.
