With all the problems you've had with Nero, I would try some different programs.

If you are creating a DVD, the normal procedure is to Capture, Encode, Author, Burn.

You might try ConvertXToDVD, it certainly has a better success record than Nero for AVI to DVD conversion.

For authored DVD size problems, see how big it is first. You can burn about 4.37GB on a DVD-5. You can run it through DVD Shrink if you want a quick cure, but quality will suffer if you have to transcode and compress it too much. Better is to encode it to the proper size in the first place.

But I would recommend you look into the individual tools for DVD production if you want the best quality. Nero is not the way to go, IMO.

  4. It seems to me I found problem whne I start nero application for burning or encoding action and I am getting this following message
I never get this message before
    ---------------------------
    Nero Vision
    ---------------------------
Hardware acceleration is deactivated. Some capture devices may not work properly.
You can activate hardware acceleration using the DirectX Diagnostics tool.
    ---------------------------
    OK
    ---------------------------

How can activate hardware acceleration using the DirectX Diagnostics tool? It would be appreciated if you guys point out it may be related to my problem

    Thanks

    This is from MS:

To use the DirectX Diagnostic Tool to determine the version of DirectX that is installed on your computer, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. Type dxdiag, and then click OK.
    3. On the System tab, note the version of DirectX displayed on the DirectX Version line.
    4. On the DirectX Files tab, check the version information for each DirectX file.
    5. When you are finished checking file versions, click Exit.
If Windows cannot find the dxdiag program, DirectX version 5.0 or earlier is installed on your computer. If this is the case, download and install the current version of DirectX.

To download the latest version fo DirectX, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx)
You will see where you can enable or disable DirectX acceleration when you run the program.

I had a similar problem once, my program (Sonic RecordNow) kept saying the disc was not blank. I googled the problem and someone in cyberspace had posted that Memorex brand discs stink and have that problem. Sure enough, I changed disc brands and it was fine.

I've got bigger problems with dvd burning today...that's for another post.

Sure, go ahead and post the log. I would remove your Nero serial number from the log and the file name, if wanted.

It seems to be "estimating" a total disc running length that is very close to the typical max size of a recordable disc - perhaps it's getting it very slightly wrong there, and when calculating in detail, it finds that the DVDR is too small (even by one byte) to hold the data.

Try reducing the recording quality just slightly (or if you want to be absolutely sure, by a whole level), remove a title if it's got more than one item on the list, etc, and make sure to use a completely new disc off the spindle / out of the shrinkwrap (just in case you're attempting to write onto an already-written disc by accident), see if that helps.
-= She sez there's ants in the carpet, dirty little monsters! =-
Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more!
