My sony digital 8 camcorder has a dirty head. I need a cleaning tape for it but can't seem to find one anywhere. It is a sony V8-25CLD cleaning cassette. All the web sites that say they carry it have it on backorder....no telling when I will get it. Sony does not support or make it anymore. I knew you guys and gals might have info on a site or store that might carry this cassette.
    Any help would be appreciated.
Daughters graduation soon and need camera up and running.

  4. Heads can be cleaned with a special chamois wet with alcohol, if you can get to the drum. It works far better than a cleaning tape. Chemtronics makes the best chamois.

Is this item a cloth or q-tip type object? looked at their web site and could not find a chamois. Sorry but I have never heard of it before.

Here is what they look like:

Here they are in 15 packs:

That was just a quick search, you might be able to find them cheaper somewhere else. You have to be able to get to the drum to use them.

The chamois with alcohol that samijubal recomended works good. Using a buissness card pressed against the drum and rotating 4 or 5 time works as well if not better.

How do you know you have a bad head? You didn't mention if the camcorder was Hi8/digital but if it was, play back a previous analog recorded tape. If it palysback with flashing video and snow then a head is clogged.

If it playsback with what looks like a tracking problem then it's not a clogged head problem. Sony has a history of tape guide set screws that come loose on the tape guides. The tape path will have to realigned.
