How do I record a my voice at a good sound level?
I'm using my laptop and a headset.
When I record my voice, it's always at a low level.
I've increased the recording level in sound properties - but I don't notice any difference.
Is my only choice to: record and then increase the amplitude fo the sound?
If so... what's the best tool for this?
I've got Audacity - is that OK for this purpose?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Audacity: effect -> amplify?
Is that the correct option?
Is there no way of recording at a high level int he first place?
(Erm without shouting ym head off that is.) -
Assuming you use windows, double click speaker ,mixer should show volume Control. On volume control select Options, then Properties select recording, make sure mic box is selected,On the advanced tab of Mic,check 1 Microphone Boost.

thanks for the reply.
i checked originally... and it was set to this setting already. -
If you drop the mic recording level, does the volume recorded also drop?
If not (bear with me, for you probably have already done this) make sure your mic is connected to the mic-in and not the line-in. If you don't have a dedicated mic-in, adjust the line-in recording level to boost mic volume. (A mic may not work on the line-in, though I've never tried it.)
If so, it seems your mic and computer don't get along very well. A different mic may fix the problem.
Good Luck!!!Usually long gone and forgotten -
Mics will work on a line-in connection, but will need to be boosted a LOT. Better to use mic-in. A different mic might serve you better. Still, you should be able to set your level properly with what you have.
