  1. I have been using DVD2AVI then Tmpgenc to encode VOB files to DVD compliant files then burn using DVDit, this takes a long time, the question is - is their a mpeg2 encoder card that will except VOB files and encode them to MPEG 2 in a quicker time for around the £500 price, i,ve heared that the Pinnacle Dv500 does this but there is no mention of this on their web site.
Does anyone therefore know if this is true or the name of another encoder card that accepts VOBs or is similar to use as tmpgenc but faster.

  2. Pinnacle DV500 has a hardware acceleration for mpeg2 encoding. It's like 2:1. The card has analog and digital inn/out. Most of the effects render realtime ( composit out only ).

The card is bundled with Pinnacle Impression CD-Pro authoring software, you can download a free upgrade to DVD-SE.

  3. Try Cinema Craft Encoder.......I can't tell you how to get it...but try some internet searches. That, coupled with DVD2SVCD is the fastest, most convienient way to make SVCD....

This might be an unusual alternative suggestion, but will improve your encoding time. For the 500 pounds you were considering spending in order to eventually speed up your encoding, have you considered upgrading your computer? In fact, for that money, you could buy a whole new computer, and just dedicate for encoding. You could buy a bare-bones hot rod Athlon system for that much money, network it to your capture/rip computer, and pass the capture files to it. It wouldn't need any fancy hardware because its only for encoding.
