What is the advantage of using Frameserve with Virtualdub as opposed to just bringing your AVI file directly into TMPGEnc? My current method is to run the Capture, which creates the AVI. Exit Virtualdub. Open TMPGEnc, load up the AVI file and use Source Range.

It helps to apply some filters in VirtualDub before encoding. You could add subtitles, carry out Resizing, remove logos, adjust brightness /contrast/color etc . It is advisable to resize in VirtualDub than TMPGEnc as this could improve the encoding speed.

Its also to get around large files. If you capped in virtualdub and your files end up bigger than 4gig, it will split it into 2 files. You can't load 2 avi files into tmpgenc directly. But you can easily framserve both files into one mpeg.
