Just recently I have been having a few problems with TMPGenc in that some media files I have downloaded are not recognised by TMPGenc. I always check them with Gspot to see what the audio is and if its not AC3, I then try to load tha said avi file into TMPGenc, but then the file is not supported!
Gspot says that the codecs are installed, and the avi file will play in WMP, so whats up with TMPGenc. it is getting a bit annoying now because nearly every media file I try to convert with TMPGenc cannot be done, so I have been using ConvertXtoDVD which doesn't complain.
Never the less I'd still like the option to use TMPGenc.
    Any ideas please?

    Thanks

If nothing in the guide over TMPGEnc problems (https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?guideid=10#10) helps, I suggest trying to load the trouble file in VirtualDub (or using AviSynth) and frameserve to TMPGEnc.

I pushed up the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader to +2 and then tried to load the said avi file into TMPGenc, but still the same problem.
I loaded it into AVIcodec and here is the info on that file:
    File:802 MB (802 MB), duration: 2:24:33, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 35 %
    Video : 703 MB, 680 Kbps, 23.976 fps, 580*234 (2.47:1), DX50 = DivXNetworks Divx v5, Supported

    Audio : 99 MB, 96 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported

I used ConvertXto dvd to do the job and it has turned out ok as it plays in my dvd player without any problems.

    Thanks

I assume I have the divx codec installed because I have an uninstaller program for it.
Is there somewhere in WinXP I can check which version etc I have got?
    Thanks

I've found TMPGEnc to have problems with MP3 audio... I've started handling audio seperately from video these days - seems to work much better. I drop my .avi into GoldWave, it will decompress the audio, then you can save as a .wav file in GoldWave. That's it. Convert to .ac3 later if you want to. Never had any problems using this method.
