    Hi all.
I have some Divx movies here that I would like to convert and record to DVD format. I don't need a DVD with beautiful menus and other crap. The only thing I would really like to do was keeping more than one audio stream (when available, of course) and making switchable subtitles based on my .srt files.
TMPGenc DVD Author 3 is perfect for my needings 'cause it's has all the options I need, and also encodes the audio and video itself.
The big problem is when I decided to install Windows 2003 here and now I have problems when I need to open the menu that makes possible to import the subtitles. The following message appears in my screen when I click the "Edit Menu" in "Subtitles" tab: "Read error occurred at address 004DCA9A of module 'TMPGencDVDAuthor3.exe with 76FCEB88".
The only way I found here was putting non-switchable subtitles when using TMPGenc with VobSub, and I really hate doing this way...
Does anybody know a way of fixing this problem or even tell me a similar program making possible to easily author DVDs with audio and subtitle streams?
    Thanks a lot.

PS: I ever tried running the executable file in 'Windows XP compatibility mode" and it doesn't seem to work, althought I heard someone sucesfully did it in Windows Vista.
PS2: The version here is 3.0.5.149.

W2003 may not be entirely compatible with that program. I imagine it's designed for XP. But you could try uninstalling and reinstalling it.

Or the program may be looking for a specific address that is used for other purposes on W2003. Unless you need the server functions of W2003, I would stick with XP.

Or for authoring, you could try a couple of freeware authoring programs like DVD Authorgui or GUI for dvdauthor.

Windows Server 2003 is, as it's name suggests, designed as a server platform. If you must use it on a desktop (and I can think of very few reasons why you would), you could try running XP inside a virtual machine to allow you to run these applications. Of course, then you would be running them on a virtual PIII, so you will take a performance hit.

Go back to XP if you are running desktop apps - that's what it is designed for.

    Thanks for the answers.
I unfortunately have my own reasons for using 2003 here and could even try another authoring software instead of coming back for XP.
    More replies are welcome.

You will find that using a server OS for your desktop will limit your options quite a bit. I would seriously consider Microsoft's free virtualPC platform so you can run XP from within 2003 server.

Wouldn't it make it a lot slower than using a native instalation of XP?

The error is caused by a Microsoft Security Update KB925902.

Uninstall this update using Control Panel "Add or Remove Programs" and the edit function will work again. This update has caused various problems with various software

Microsoft is supposedly preparing a fix for the security update

For AVI/MOV/MP4/RMVB to DVD The FilmMachine can do multiple selectable subs from txt srt subs and multiple audio tracks.

It can also use Cinema Craft Encoder Basic/SP/SP2 and Canopus Procoder 2 as the encoder if you have them.
The package comes with everything including the free encoders HCenc and QuEnc.

    2003 compatability unknown.
Give it a go and let us know if it's 2003 friendly.

The FilmMachine seems to work fine, but it doesn't support chapters (or I don't know how to manage it)...

All the intermediate file are located in C:\Program Files\The FilmMachine\Output\ folder.
You could try using the DVD files in \Output\DVD\ via the source wizard in TDA to add chapters and hopefully avoid the program crash.

No wonder lots of things are broken by this update. Have a look at the files is changes on your own OS here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS07-017.mspx
I feel sorry for software vendors.
